Goodbye Virginia. It Was Nice To See You Again

April 28th, 2006 · 3 Comments

Today is my last full day in Virginia. I really enjoyed my time here. The first time I was here was in the winter time. It was cold and had lots of snow, which is something we don’t get in southern Arizona unless we import it. Pretty lame, if you ask me. That was February of 1993. That summer, I made my way out here again. This time it was very hot and had lots of water in the air. Comparing the two seasons, I definitely preferred winter.

So now I’m here during the springtime. I’m told this is the best time to be visiting, and I have to agree. It’s absolutely beautiful out here. The weather is perfect, even when it’s rainy. The time I’ve been here has been wonderful.

But I have to say, with everything being considered, there’s one very important missing piece to Virginia - my family. I am so ready to go home. I can’t wait to get back to my wife and four children tomorrow.

So thank you, Virginia. You have beautiful countryside, wonderfully nice people, and some great history. I got a lot of good memories, and I do hope to return again. Hopefully with my family.

JFCOM Commander's CoinOn another subject, before leaving my work site today, I received a thank you from the Joint Systems Integration Command (JSIC) for my time and talent. Also a gift. A Commander’s Coin. I’m not sure if it’s a big deal from any particular perspective, but it’s a big deal to me. I’ve never received one of these. There it is on the left. Pretty in’t it? It’s heavy, too. Feels like it’s made of real metal, and stuff. This is so cool.

From any active duty military perspective it’s a big deal. Shows a job well done and appreciation from the giver. Not everyone gets a commander’s coin. One of the things the AD guys do is to use them for free drinks. If you go to the club and lay your coin down, the folks around you have to show their coin too. The one without their coin buys the drinks. The guys where my hubs works does it just randomly throughout the day to try to get someone else to buy their soda for them. :)

Congrats! And I am happy for you that you are going home. I hope that you get a huge homecoming display when you get there. Happy travels.

    Schade,
I speak for Old Dominion. We are glad to have you here. We hope you can come back one day and explore more of our history and beautiful county side. Since you hit three of the four season, might I suggest the next time you come first and foremost, you must bring your family, and second you must visit during the fall. It’s the prettiest around October 21st. Our leaves are changing and it is beautiful! Nice crisp air. If you get up in the morning with the sun at your back and face west. The changing colors on the trees lead right up to the “Purple Mountain Majesty.” Ya’ll of course are welcome back anytime!
