Angelfire To The Rescue!

August 26th, 2006 · 2 Comments

Recently, my sister sent me a picture of her daughter dressed for her first day of school.  For some reason, I was inspired to photoshop it.  I came up with a short story to go along the new photo, as well.  After reading this, Mrs. Schadeboy suggested I start writing children's books.  That might be fun.  Anyway, the following is that story.  I have changed the names for obvious reasons.  Keep in mind, this is designed for a 4-year-old.

Angelfire was so excited to be heading off to her first day of school.  The anticipation she felt nearly overwhelmed the joy she felt on wearing her new school clothes.  Nearly.  Let’s be honest, nothing is as exciting as wearing new school clothes.  She smiled as her mother took a picture of her in her outfit, then kissed her goodbye.  She gleefully opened the door.  The sunlight danced across her face like happy fairies prancing through an open meadow on a spring day.  The smell of fresh lilacs and roses tingled her nose, making her feel giddy and gleeful.  This was going to be a great day.

Angelfire closed the door and started down the path towards the bus stop.  Before she could even make it to the end of the driveway, though, things changed drastically.

A high-pitched alert softly beeped from within her pocket.  Angelfire reached in and pulled out her secret Dick Tracy communicator.  She stared in disbelief at the name on the Caller ID display.  No, not now! She thought to herself.  But there was no getting out of this.  The commissioner was definitely calling her, and she could not ignore the message displayed on the little device.

She pressed the comm. Button and answered the distress signal.

“Commissioner Gordon, this is Angelfire.  What’s the trouble?”

“Angelfire!  We need your help immediately!  We’ve just intercepted a communication from outer space!  An alien space craft is on its way to Earth right now to destroy all Humanity!  This is a ship from the Zurgonian Empire!  You’re our only hope!  You must stop them immediately!  Please, Angelfire!  They’ll be here any minute!”

“I’m on it, Commissioner!”  Angelfire put away her communicator.  Knowing that the alien ship would be to Earth in a matter of minutes, there was no time to change into her superhero costume.  Angelfire was going to have to do his in plain clothes!  Which meant she might get her new school outfit all dirty.  But that was a chance she was going to have to take.  Earth needed her.

Without hesitation, Angelfire hit a button on her backpack.  Immediately two rocket jets poked out from the bottom and ignited, sending Angelfire blasting into the troposphere and into outer space.  Within moments she had met up with the Zurgonian attack spaceship.  There was only one way to destroy these ships, and that was to throw an overripe banana into the engines.  It just so happened that Angelfire had an overripe banana in her backpack (it's a magic backpack, you see).  She targeted the ships engine and foisted the banana into it.  Then got the heck out of there.

Moments later, the Zurgonian spaceship blew up into a million smithereens!  Angelfire had save the day again!  Yea Angelfire!

And here's the picture.  It's admittedly not my best work, but it was fun to create.  And I think my neice really enjoyed me doing this for her.  I think.
