Maybe it's time to explain the pink?
I'm not sure if you know this, but October is Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Month. Pink has been designated the official color of BCA. So in an attempt to be a little more, um, aware and show my support for this very important thing, I have decided to change the colors of the blog. That also explains the pink ribbon in the left sidebar.
I have personally never been affected by breast cancer (and that's not really supposed to be funny - I've heard men can get this, too). I haven't been affected by it myself either directly or indirectly. But a lot of people out there have been, and it's no laughing matter. This disease can kill. It has, and it will continue to do so unless we can do something to figure out how to stop it. Being aware of it is a start.
But I, personally, would like to be able to do a little more. I hope this doesn't seem like any kind of self-promotion, but I came up with an idea that might allow both you and me to make a bit of a contribution. I felt that maybe I could put my store to good use, here. A use that would allow me to raise some money to donate to the cause, and in return people can get a real nifty item or 6. It seemed like a good idea, so I decided to make a go at it.
So here's what I'll do. During the entire month of October, any proceeds from any sales that I make will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. And when I mean all proceeds, I mean all proceeds. I don't make but a few bucks off each sale, but even a $5.00 proceed will be sent to them. You could buy a SchadeBLOG shirt and I'll send every last bit of profit of that sale to the foundation. You could buy 20 shirts, 16 mugs, and two and a half mouse pads, and still I'll donate every last penny that I make to the cause. I promise, cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye that I won't keep any of the money. I think I should probably say that at a minimum, I'd have to make at least $5.00 before I'll send anything. I mean, it'd be kind of weird to send them a check for $1.50, you know? So let' me put that stipulation in. I won't send anything until I get at least $5.00 in sales. Is that bad?
Okay, so we've got that going. But that didn't quite feel like enough to me, so I decided to go a step further. I have created a section that is nothing but BCA specific items. Currently, there's only one design, but I have plans for more. Any time any one of these items is sold, during October or not, the proceeds will be donated. I will never make any profit off of these items. Ever. I am not making this up, and no, I'm not crossing my fingers, toes, legs, arms, or eyeballs. This is a real thing. All proceeds from all sales of any specific BCA item will be sent to the foundation. Not just during October, but for as long as I have this store.
So go buy something! And rest easy knowing that you are not making Schadeboy any richer, but the money will be donated to a good cause.
